This guide compares five options through their published documentation, with a separate look at formulator OS. We develop formulator OS. We have not conducted a hands-on comparison of these products. Vendor information was checked on September 9, 2026; the descriptions below concern documented features, not independently measured performance. This is a selected comparison, not a complete market directory.
Start with the work you need to do
A useful way to sort the options is to ask four questions:
- Calculation: Do you mainly need percentages, scaling, and quantities?
- Design: Do you want guidance on ingredient choices and methods?
- Records: Do you need formulas, versions, materials, and sample records together?
- Coordination: Do several people need shared data, permissions, approvals, or production workflows?
These categories overlap. They also describe different needs, rather than levels of formulation expertise. An experienced independent chemist and a manufacturer with several departments can need very different software.
Consider the question you want to answer when you open the application. Is it “Which ingredients should I consider?” or “Which saved formula did we use for this sample?” A product that handles one well may deserve a different kind of evaluation for the other.
Five options to investigate
The table provides a starting point. Prices reflect the displayed billing periods, rather than converting annual subscriptions into apparent monthly offers. Confirm currency, taxes, plan limits, and checkout terms with the vendor before buying.

Create Cosmetic Formulas guides ingredient selections and input amounts, then assembles a method. Its separate programs cover skin and hair products, makeup, and organic formulations. That makes it relevant to readers looking for support while designing a formula. Check the program's product coverage and ingredient choices against the work you intend to do.
Program details and subscriptions
CM Studio+
CM Studio+ offers a free starting tier and paid plans with broader scope. Standard lists formula-version comparison and reusable QA test templates; higher tiers add team and approval features. It is worth examining the plan boundaries rather than treating every feature on the website as part of the entry subscription.
Formulator Online
Formulator Online documents compound raw materials, ingredient records, batches, and spreadsheet import. Its pricing page distinguishes ingredient lot records from per-lot inventory tracking, with tracking and team features depending on the plan. The annual prices above were displayed offers; confirm the current offer and plan limits directly.

Coptis PLM
PLM means product lifecycle management. Coptis offers bundles for different team sizes, including a Starter bundle for one to four users. Its packages vary in database coverage, initialization, and support. The package can be configured around the team and its requirements; this does not mean every installation is custom-built software.
Software Advice lists Coptis Solution from €16,000 per year. That is a third-party listing, not a current quote confirmed by Coptis; the included configuration and applicable price need confirmation.

Cosmetri
Cosmetri Product Manager covers formulation, testing, packaging, cost, and production handoff. The separate Cosmetri GMP offering addresses quality workflows such as audits, procedures, complaints, and recalls. Ask which product addresses your needs and what is included in the quote.
G2 lists older Product Manager plans at €49, €129, and €290 per month, with the underlying pricing information dated October 9, 2024. The former official plans page now redirects to Registrar Corp. Treat those figures as historical context and request current pricing for the product, users, and services you need.

What the comparison tells us
The choice is broader than a calculator at one end and an enterprise system at the other. The published plans above include record-management features at self-service prices. That makes a specific workflow a better starting point than a general assumption about what inexpensive software can do.
For each shortlisted product, ask to see a familiar task from beginning to end. Open a saved formula, locate the associated sample, and find its material information and notes. Then inspect what you can export. A feature label such as “version history” or “inventory” tells you where to investigate; the demonstration tells you how that feature fits your work.
The same applies to interface complexity. Additional fields may be useful to a quality team and unnecessary for your own daily work. Look at whether you can reach the relevant information, whether the screen makes its context clear, and whether the controls you need remain convenient on your intended device.
Where formulator OS fits
We are developing formulator OS around cosmetic formulation work on the iPhone. Its documented workflows include saved formula versions, separate Sample and Batch records, ingredient purchase information, and local storage. The aim is to keep those records close to the work they describe, with a focused interface for finding and using them.
For example, formula history gives you a way to return to a saved version, while ingredient records keep purchase information with the material. We have not established that formulator OS is faster or easier than the products in this guide through comparative testing. It is also in active development and not yet publicly available. Try a small, representative task
Choose a few records that represent your actual work before committing to a new system. A saved formula, a sample, a material record, and an observation can reveal more than a long checklist of features.
